NaNoWriMo 2016!

I DID IT! I signed up for National Novel Writing Month, otherwise known as NaNoWriMo. It was a pretty off-the-cuff decision, but I have most of the month of November off (thank go!) so what better time to write a shitload?

For those of you unfamiliar with NaNoWriMo, it’s a “competition” in which you attempt to write 50k words in a single month. There’s no pressure though, you just plug in your word counts, rack up some self-congratulatory badges, and hopefully at the end of the month you have the workings of a novel! Or just really sore fingers and horrible writer’s block. Who cares! The community seems killer, and there’s lots of forums, inspiration, and writing meet-ups with others in your region. I signed up for the New Hampshire region even though I live in Alaska because I’ll be spending half the month on the east coast. NH also has a crap load more people than ol’ podunk Alaska, so I figured I’d have a better chance of making it to some write-ins! Nothing like sitting in a coffee shop all day and banging out nonsense on a keyboard.

As far as what I’ll be working on.. I’ve had a YA fantasy manuscript in the words for about six months now, but I’ve been face first in the shithole that is writer’s block for weeks. I’m hoping being forced to write every day (even if it’s garbage), will help drag me out. I adore the story and the characters, but am having a really hard time fleshing it out.. that and blog posts have been WAAAY more fun to write lately.
